First time buyer goes for city living at The Orangery

Jamie Atkinson (25), a Director in construction, moved out of his parents’ house in Huddersfield and into his first home at The Orangery in December 2023 to be closer to his work and Manchester city centre.

First step onto the property ladder

Jamie opted for Taylor Wimpey after reading our positive reviews and found our homes to be of good quality. When asked why he chose a newbuild, he said: "I wanted everything to be new and to have personalisation options. Newbuilds also have a better value for money than previously-owned properties."

Jamie chose The Orangery due to its location as our closest development to Manchester city centre. He said: "It has a professional-looking setup, tidy surroundings and there are already people living in the area. I found the sales team to be welcoming and the builds are of good quality. I also like how the development is in quite a secluded area away from the surrounding houses."

Despite how stressful purchasing a house can be, Jamie found the process with Taylor Wimpey to be very simple and easy, he said: "It was a straightforward purchase with regular updates provided by the sales team. Any questions I had were answered relatively quickly and the door was always open. The sales team were always friendly prior to, during and following the purchase.

"Overall, the sales team has been great and I've had a very good experience. I personally work in construction and utilities, so I know this isn't always the case, but with Taylor Wimpey every issue was resolved and the site manager in particular was really helpful."

As Jamie was a solo purchaser, he bought a two bedroom apartment as it provided all the space he needed. Now that he's settled in, Jamie shared his thoughts on The Orangery and the local area, he said: "The Orangery is relatively quiet and I have good neighbours."
