    Sponsorship for Prestwood 10k run aids the Chilterns MS Centre

    We were proud to be the main sponsor of this year’s Prestwood 10k run and children’s run in aid of the Chilterns MS Centre in Wendover.

    Our £750 donation to the event funded new banners publicising the children’s races and also went towards additional running costs.

    Sharon Deacon, Community Fundraiser for the Chilterns MS Centre, says: “We need to raise £1 million a year to keep the centre going and this is one of our biggest fundraisers, so Taylor Wimpey’s donation is a huge help.”

    The Prestwood 10k took place on Sunday 15th May and saw 194 runners take part in the 10k and 63 children take part in a series of fun runs.
    “The race started about 23 years ago,” says Sharon. “We took it over as a charity about four years ago and have been running it ever since, with all the proceeds going to the centre.

    “It’s growing every year. The children’s races only started last year.”

    The Chilterns MS Centre provides services and advice for people with multiple sclerosis (MS), their families and carers. The centre treats 300 patients each week, with six to eight new patients referred every month, and its service is subsidised by donations and the efforts of the centre’s fundraising teams.

    Sharon explains: “It’s a friendly meeting place as well as somewhere where they can access a wide range of therapies and treatments.

    “The centre is a lifeline for people with MS. They may stay for a few hours and have a chat with other people with MS.

     “The NHS doesn’t supply anywhere near enough funding for people with MS to help them retain their mobility and keep active, so it’s vital we keep the centre going.”
