When you’re designing your hallway

It’s important to think about the whole house and the view you’ll be greeted with when doors to other rooms are open.

Want to recreate that special feeling you get when you enter a beautifully designed home? Check out these gorgeous hallways to find out how you can give your home a stunning entrance.

Consider the whole house

The main colour scheme in this hallway is neutral, yet the whole space is full of texture and pattern. The interesting feel is created by the different wallpapers around the home – in the living room, in the hallway and at the top of the stairs. These glimpses of pattern are just enough to give this space character without overwhelming the whole entrance.

Pop in a mirror

A simple, yet effective trick to increase the feeling of space and light in your hallway is to install a mirror. Here, the large glass on the left wall really opens out the space and reflects the light from the window opposite. The designers have chosen a black-framed mirror to replicate the geometric design on the wallpaper, which helps to balance the room.

Give it some luxury

The central staircase in this roomy hallway is stylish enough, but the soft carpet adds some extra luxury. To make it feel even more inviting, the designers have layered the lighting with glamorous chandeliers and an ambient table lamp. This look would work equally as well in a smaller hallway – choose soft colours, vintage furniture and elegantly shaped light fittings.

Go for gold

Art deco is having an interiors moment, so how about introducing it in your hallway? This gorgeous entrance hall does it beautifully, and the starting point is the gold-outlined, geometric wallpaper. The brass console table ties in with the wallpaper design to amplify the look and black edges have been brought in with the mirror and picture frames. Keep the rest of the space minimal to create a hallway that feels chic and elegant.

Keep it simple

For an entranceway that feels calm and uncluttered, stick to a neutral palette of grey and white and make sure surfaces are clean and unfussy. Here, the tiled flooring is smooth and practical, while the grey carpet adds pared-back softness. For an even more streamlined look, hide the heater as they’ve done here with a radiator cover. Don’t forget to add a few accessories though, or your minimal space could feel a little cold – here, they’ve installed a mirror and artwork, while the reed diffuser gives the room a cosy fragrance.
