How to create a boutique bedroom
It doesn’t have to cost the earth to achieve the perfect look for your bedroom – but some things are definitely worth splashing out on.

Where to spend and save to design a boutique style bedroom
According to interior design expert Derek Taylor, star of TV’s 60 Minute Makeover, the key to successful home furnishing is knowing when to save... and when to spend.

Derek has stuck to this golden rule in fitting out the show apartment at Chobham Manor, and in particular the master bedroom, where the spend-and-save philosophy has been used to an impressive effect.
High-quality Amtico flooring offers all the visual appeal of natural wood but is far more hard-wearing and resistant to moisture – engineered wood is an equally durable alternative – while the comfortable super kingsize bed has been built to last a lifetime.
“We’ve used a stunning floor-to-ceiling headboard in this room which just velcros to the wall – and the beauty of it is you can easily remove the panels and get them re-covered if you want to change your look without redecorating the whole room,” says Derek.
"Because the headboard covers the full height of the wall, you only need a single strip of paper either side to create a really striking feature wall – so you can afford to go for more expensive, bespoke wallpaper while staying within your budget.
The rest of the room you can decorate more cheaply as you don’t want to lessen the impact of the feature wall. In this case we’ve kept the other walls neutral with mirrored wardrobes reflecting natural light around the room.
By spending on some elements and saving on others, you can create your ideal space without spending a fortune.”
