We have submitted a comprehensive planning application for the development of approximately 252 homes, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses.
Clasper Village is located in an area of significant heritage, with a rich industrial and residential history at a key gateway location on the River Tyne. It is a prime location on the River Tyne, adjacent one of the main arterial routes into Newcastle over the Redheugh Bridge.
We assembled a project team of experts including P&HS Architects, Colour Landscape Design & Queensberry Design Engineers. We then brought in Hemmingway Design, building on the success of 20 years of our adjacent award winning Staiths Development, in order to test the design and push the team to achieve design excellence.
Our aspirations for this development are for an exemplar quality development embracing Active Design & Travel and making community the heart of all our design decisions.

Masterplan
The site encompasses approximately 8.2 hectares (gross) and is located to the north of Askew Road, just southwest of the Redheugh Bridge. The surrounding area is diverse, with the River Tyne to the north, Gateshead city centre to the east, and an existing housing estate to the southwest.
Transportation is convenient due to excellent transport links, including public transport services, easy access to the A1 by car, and Gateshead Metro Station within walking distance.
The development is envisioned as an exclusive neighbourhood, offering approximately 260 high-quality homes. Inspired by and designed to complement the surrounding area, the development will include robust landscaping to soften the overall design, with a diverse range of green spaces available throughout the whole site.

Getting around is simple due to good transport links, with public transport services and easy access to the A1 from the site.
For those who love the outdoors, there are a variety of local walks, with direct access to the walking route that stretches down to Newcastle’s Quayside. There’s plenty to do nearby with Gateshead & Newcastle centres being within a 20 minute walk away, boasting a diverse range of recreational activities, including bars, restaurants, and cinemas.
Drainage
Comprehensive investigations and surveys are currently underway, which will culminate in a detailed flood risk assessment and surface water drainage strategy. These measures are designed to ensure that an appropriate and effective drainage solution is implemented for the development.
Ecology
Preserving and enhancing the natural environment is central to our approach in developing new projects. We are conducting extensive ecological surveys to identify any constraints within the site and to inform the proposed landscape design.
Efforts will be made to retain key features where possible, with additional planting introduced to reinforce existing natural buffers. Our proposals include the creation of various functional ecological enhancements, such as new habitats, bat, bird, and bee bricks/boxes, and measures to promote pollinator-friendly environments.
