Brian and Victoria Howes have lived in the scenic market town of Yarm for six years. They were keen for a home upgrade to suit the needs of their growing family, but didn’t want to compromise the countryside.
Their decision to choose Oaklands was swift, “We knew we didn't want to move too far away from Yarm as we love the area. We spent a lot of time looking at other developments in the town but we couldn't find any that ticked all the boxes; however, as soon as we found out Taylor Wimpey were launching their Oaklands development, we knew we had to get our hands on one of their new homes!”
Brian adds: “We love the location and size of the development - it's close by to Yarm High Street and the development is small, so it’s perfect for us.”

Celebrating our award winning site manager
Lee Dewing is celebrating winning a Pride in the Job Supreme Award winner in the Large Builder category, from the National House-Building Council (NHBC).
Now in its 45th year, the Pride in the Job Quality Awards have become the benchmark for exceptional site managers and are awarded following a rigorous judging process. Thousands of inspections have taken place to determine this year’s 450 winners from a field of more than 8,000 sites. Lee’s award win is the most highly regarded competition in the industry and puts him in the top 5% of UK site managers.
Commenting on his award win, Lee said: “Winning this award is a real honour, it means a lot as I know myself and the rest of the team put a lot of hard work and dedication into our job at the Oaklands site, and we all take huge pride in what we do.
"It's a huge career milestone for me to be recognised among the top site managers not just locally, but throughout the entire UK, and is something I am extremely proud of.”
Growing family finds perfect forever home in Kirklevington
After outgrowing their home in Yarm, Andrew Wilson (31), Lucy Hesling (34) and their 1-year-old son, Casper were ready to find a larger family home that could accommodate their changing needs. Their search led them to Taylor Wimpey's Oaklands development in Kirklevington, where they found their perfect family home.
Andrew said: "We moved in June 2025 and couldn't be happier. We wanted a bigger property with a hallway, and this Croyland 4-bedroom house ticks all our boxes."
As experienced homeowners looking for convenience with a young family, the couple were drawn to the benefits of a new-build property.
"We'd heard good things from family and friends about Taylor Wimpey properties," Lucy explained. "Having a young family, it's extremely convenient moving into a new build. The finish of the property is great, and it was really easy to move into."
The development's location was a major factor in their decision. "A close family member lives on the development, which really encouraged us to move here," Andrew shared. "Plus it's close to where we already lived. It's in a lovely area with a tight knit community - a really nice place to bring up a family."
The Croyland house type offered exactly what they were looking for, "We really liked the large open-plan kitchen diner at the back," Lucy said. "The size and quantity of bedrooms was perfect for a growing family. Our previous property didn't have a hallway, and this was a big selling point for us."
The buying process with Taylor Wimpey exceeded their expectations. "The entire experience was really easy," Andrew noted. "We'd already sold our house, so it couldn't have been much smoother. The staff at Taylor Wimpey, particularly Natalie and Lorraine, worked tirelessly to get us into the property as early as possible. We can't thank them enough."
Now settled in, the family is thriving in their new environment. "We're really enjoying being in our new home," Lucy shared. "Our neighbours and community are all lovely. The house has so much potential, and we're really excited to decorate and get it exactly to our taste."
The location has proven ideal for their lifestyle. "For commuting, the area is perfect with the A19 being really close by," Andrew concluded. "It's the perfect balance of community living with excellent transport links."

Nicki Hope, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire says: “It’s a real shame that hedgehog numbers have declined so dramatically over the last 20 years. Through our partnership with Hedgehog Street we hope to raise awareness of the simple things people can do to help protect them and to play our part by installing hedgehog highways at our developments.
"We asked students at Kirklevington Primary School to design a poster for us to mark the unveiling of the highway at Oaklands. We were delighted with all of the creative entries we received and the designs will now proudly sit in our Oaklands sales office for customers to see.”
