Learn more about our proposals an exciting new community at land at Chilcompton Road, Midsomer Norton
We are preparing proposals for up to 140 new homes at land at Chilcompton Road, Midsomer Norton before submitting a planning application to Bath and North East Somerset Council. The site has been identified in the Bath and North East Somerset Draft Local Plan (October 2025) as an option for new homes.
Over the past few months, Taylor Wimpey have developed an illustrative masterplan for our site. Our scheme is purely at the Outline stage, but our proposals are likely to include a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties. To support the council’s ambition for more affordable housing, 30% will be affordable homes.
This development will provide an excellent choice for all buyers, from working professionals and young couples taking their first step on the housing ladder, to growing families or downsizers. Our plans for the site would deliver a high-quality scheme that, if approved, will provide much-needed new homes in Midsomer Norton.

- The creation of a new children’s play area and public open space About the site About the site The site sits on the southern edge of Midsomer Norton and is divided by Chilcompton Road. It is sustainably located within walking and cycling distance to a range of local retail amenities, employment opportunities, schools, recreation grounds and places of worship. Natural environment Natural environment Accessible green space for communities is important to us. This site presents a fantastic opportunity to provide a real boost to local wildlife and ecology through, new habitats and the planting of trees and hedgerows. The attenuation area in the site’s eastern corner will look to include grassland and native structure planting tolerant of occasional wet condition. The proposed play area and main public open space is located throughout the site’s eastern field, which will form a focal green space. Connectivity Connectivity The primary vehicle access will be a continuation of Chilcompton Road from the south, with a change in priority into the site.
Cyclists and pedestrians are afforded access from the north of the site, with pedestrians also able to access the existing public rights of way to the west and north, south and east beyond the site boundaries.
The scheme will provide pedestrian and cycle connectivity internally and will connect to the existing Public Right of Way.
Bus stops named ‘Riverside Gardens’ are located along Chilcompton Road immediately to the north of the site. These provide access to the 173 bus service connecting between Wells and Bath. Further services are available from Redfield Road, approximately 800m (10-minute walk) to the north of the site, including routes 172 and 522, which each provide regular connections to Bristol. Community Community
We believe it’s our responsibility to support our communities, so that people are proud to call them homes. We regularly invest in the areas we build through local improvements and good causes across our sites. Click here to see the full plan.
We are keen to hear your views on the proposed development and will be holding a public consultation event at the Midsomer Norton RFC, Silver Street, Midsomer Norton, BA3 2UE on Wednesday 18 March 2026, from 3pm to 7.30pm.
