We fly the flag for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in West Scotland

We challenged the Primary five pupils of two local Renfrewshire primary schools – Bishopton Primary and Dargavel Primary - to design a flag to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Celebrating the Jubilee in style

A winning design was chosen from the entries for each school and two flags have now been produced to fly at the entrance to our Dargavel Village development to welcome new visitors, existing customers and homeowners alike.

The winning designers - Cameron (Dargavel Primary) and Lilly (Bishopton Primary) - each won a £50 book voucher, a copy of their winning flag and the opportunity to visit the development to see their flag flying high at the entrance to the development.

The standard of entries was so impressive that the judges also picked four runner-up flag designs from each school to receive prizes of a £15 book voucher and a welcome banner has been created too.

Bringing colour to the community

Children from Primary 5 at each school rose to the challenge of this fun competition as Catherine Davidson, Depute Head at Bishopton Primary adds: “Having the opportunity to work with Taylor Wimpey to design a flag to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has been an unusual challenge.   Lily’s flag and the children’s welcome banner create a lovely connection between our school, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the local Taylor Wimpey development at Dargavel Village.”

Louise Chisholm, Depute Head Teacher at Dargavel Primary adds: “The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is a unique moment in our social history and being involved in this unique project has allowed our pupils to demonstrate their creativity whilst having fun.  The children enjoyed tackling their brief to create a bold and colourful design, and I understand the judges found it hard to choose a winner due to the quality of all the designs entered. The children enjoyed their visit to the development to see the flags and welcome banners they have helped to create.”
