Shortlisted for international architecture award

The artwork, named Alphonso, was created by international artist and sculptor Sarah Staton.

The artwork, which was delivered by Milton Keynes City Council, is built entirely from nearby wood-fired brick and features a bespoke tiled wall depicting the local area, its wildlife and history.

Speaking on the nomination, Sarah said: “Being shortlisted for the 2022 Brick Awards is a great honour. The humble brick has such a rich and long history, it’s an elementary building material used in so many locations around the world, and it’s been a delight to work with this material to create Alphonso on the Willow Lake site, which was in itself the location of a huge and active brickworks a century ago.”
