We support Alresford Christmas grotto

We have contributed £600 towards the Alresford Childrens Christmas Tree Fund to help cover the costs of the presents which will be gifted to the children who visit the town centre’s Christmas grotto.

The grotto is part of the Christmas late night shopping event which took place in Alresford’s town centre on the 6th December 2023. Children under the age of seven were able to visit Santa Claus in his grotto and received a free gift provided by the Alresford Childrens Christmas Tree Fund.

As well as purchasing the town centre’s Christmas tree and setting up Santa's grotto, the Alresford Childrens Christmas Tree Fund is also organising a nativity crib scene and post box for children to post their letters to Santa Claus and eagerly await a reply.

The committee has been running since the 1950s when a group of local people organised a Christmas tree for Alresford and arranged for Father Christmas to meet children and hand out gifts, which back then would be a penny and an orange. Ever since, the event has taken place every year through the finance of cash collection on the evening and grants from local businesses and organisations.

Rosamund Wells, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said: “It’s community events like these that help to make Christmas truly special each year and we’re delighted to help the Alresford Childrens Christmas Tree Fund provide gifts free of charge to children under the age of seven to make their visit to Santa’s grotto even more special.”
