We pay homage to the Hoddesdon Town FC 1975 heroes

We have named several streets and apartment buildings after the players and management of the FA Vase squad of 1975 at our Hoddesdon development, High Leigh Garden Village

Celebrating the history of our communities

On the 19th April 1975, Hoddesdon Town Football Club made history when it famously won the inaugural FA Vase at Wembley Stadium, by beating Epsom & Ewell 2-1 in front of 10,000 people, an extraordinary feat for a local sports team.

To commemorate the team and the historic event, we have named street signs and apartment buildings after the Club, the players, management, and club Chairman involved in the achievement.

We hosted an event at the development to allow both the 1975 team and current club members and their families to come and view the signs that have been released so far. They also took a look at the Hoddesdon Town FC themed children’s bedroom in our recently launched show home.

Acting on a proposal put forward by a Hoddesdon Town FC Committee member in 2015, Councillor Mark Mills-Bishop of Broxbourne Borough Council suggested the street naming to the Council and said: “The FA Vase 1975 team raised the profile of Hoddesdon Town FC as well as achieving one of the biggest sporting triumphs the town of Hoddesdon has seen, so it made sense to pay homage to the players and management in a significant way. Taylor Wimpey’s then-upcoming development, High Leigh Garden Village, seemed like the perfect way to engrave this event and its heroes into the town.”
