Our London team and SIMIAN joined forces to inspire young female students in Waltham Forest by delivering an employability skills talk at Buxton School in Leytonstone on 8th March.

Inspiring our young generations

Lisa Beresford, Apprentice Manager for our London team, was joined by Sara Calvo, South East Business Development Manager at SIMIAN at LASC to help year 9 and 10 female students prepare for their first job.

The interactive session included advice on demystifying stereotypical assumptions, creating a school leaver CV and how to prepare for an interview, as well as interview roleplay.

We are building new homes at Coronation Square, a major regeneration project with Waltham Forest Council and Lisa and Sara are working with them as Enterprise Advisors through Local London Careers Hub East, and have been engaging with students at various schools in Walthamstow.

Lisa said: “There are so many opportunities for women to have exciting careers in construction and we’re really pleased to have been able to talk to students at Buxton School on International Women’s Day this year.

“Our work with young people across Waltham Forest has shown us that there are some brilliant young minds in the borough and we hope to see some of them joining our industry  in the future.”

Sara added: “I am always amazed by the enthusiasm of our youth in Waltham Forest. It is always a pleasure to deliver workshops in schools and at our training centre in Leytonstone, London Academy of Sustainable Construction (LASC).

“We aim to give insight and assist the students in making informed career choices in a fun, interactive way. The relationship between Taylor Wimpey and SIMIAN is extremely valuable for students to understand the important connection between their employer and training provider to learn how they can work together to ensure best practice on and off the job.”
