Find out what customers think about Taylor WimpeyNew build move helps Essex couple cut mortgage payments
An Essex couple have eased their financial pressures by moving to a spacious new build home in the village community of Great Bentley.
Paul and Sarah Davison, 52 and 51, had lived in their family home in Eight Ash Green, to the west of Colchester, for four years. With grown-up children no longer living at home, the couple wanted to reduce their mortgage payments whilst also retaining plenty of space for home working and family visits.
They opted for a Taylor Wimpey home at Hartford Green in Great Bentley, to the east of Colchester. As an NHS worker, Paul was able to use our keyworker discount to receive money off the purchase.
Now fully settled into their new community, Paul and Sarah are enjoying life in their new home.
Paul said: “We like Great Bentley and know the village well. When we first visited Hartford Green it felt small enough not to be too busy, but big enough to have its own community, and we liked the central green space and general look of the development.
“We chose a new build home for the simplicity of moving into something that was brand new and needed no work, and the lack of a long chain. We felt Hartford Green was good value compared to some other new builds in the area, and liked the location and size of the community.”
The couple chose a four-bedroom Marford housetype that would allow them to retain their previous lifestyle while adding modern features such as solar panels and electric vehicle charging.
Paul added: “We wanted to be detached, and to have a garage that we’ve since converted to a gym. It was a bonus having four good-sized bedrooms and a study as we both work from home regularly. We liked the large kitchen diner, and the outlook at the front of the house facing the green space.
“Having lived here for several months now, we’ve found that the size is great as we can both work comfortably in separate rooms. We’ve turned one bedroom into a dressing room which is a real treat, and still have two good guest rooms when our children or friends come to stay.”
Paul and Sarah were already very familiar with what Great Bentley had to offer. Famous for its village green, it is a rural Essex gem with a strong community spirit and a good range of shops, eateries and other local services.
Paul said: “We have really enjoyed living here so far. The amenities are all very close by and it suits our needs very well. We love the village and everything that goes on. I am the chairman of Great Bentley Running Club so being in the village is helpful - and it is very convenient.”

Great Bentley Primary School receives digital learning support from us
Great Bentley Primary School has received a donation from Taylor Wimpey London to support its 2025 fundraising efforts, which aim to enhance digital learning for pupils in a newly completed school building.
The donation comes as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local communities, including those near its development at Hartford Green in Great Bentley.
The school’s 2025 fundraising drive builds on the success of last year’s initiative and is focused on raising enough money to purchase a class set of 32 iPads and a charging trolley. These vital resources will help ensure every pupil has access to modern learning tools in an increasingly digital-first education environment.
We have supported Great Bentley Primary School in previous years, and this latest contribution reflects its continued investment in local education and community initiatives.
Michael O’Leary, Regional Operations and Sales Director at Taylor Wimpey London, said: “At Taylor Wimpey, we’re passionate about supporting the communities we build in. We’re pleased to contribute £100 to Great Bentley Primary School’s important fundraising project and wish them the best of luck in achieving their goal.”
Family finds their perfect village haven at Hartford Green development.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of life, a family has found peace and comfort in the leafy lanes and community spirit of Hartford Green.
Jacqueline and Brian Childs, 58 and 57, made their dream move to Hartford Green, nestled in the picturesque village of Great Bentley, with their two foster children, aged 16 and 15.
Retired nurse Jacqueline and transport supervisor Brian wanted to relocate in order to be closer to their own children, leading them to purchase a spacious four-bedroom Manford house that promises comfort, community and convenience.
Jacqueline said: "We moved from Chafford Hundred to Great Bentley to be closer to our own children. It wasn’t planned, however, we noticed plot one when we accidentally came across Hartford Green on our travel route around the local villages - it was love at first sight."
The choice was also influenced by the development's appealing location, its green spaces, children’s play areas, close proximity to great schools, as well as the train station which offers connection to Colchester and beyond.
Brian said: "We immediately fell for the village and the plot, both of which are the ideal size. From the beginning, it felt like we were exactly where we were meant to be. The big green space within a quiet location is what we enjoy most about living here.
“We mostly travel by car but the children make good use of the train station for getting out and about, which makes us feel that we have the best of both worlds."
Their new home, a four-bedroom Manford house type, was an ideal fit for the family's needs as it promised to be a tranquil haven for relaxation and family time.
Jacqueline said: “Our favourite feature of the spacious property is the back family room. It's somewhat private and, once everything is finished on site, it’s going to have a lovely view of a green space.”
Recognising the importance of financial incentives in facilitating a smooth transition, the family took advantage of schemes offered by Taylor Wimpey to secure their dream home.
Brian said: “The sales team helped us with both the sale and purchase by handling stamp duty and estate agent fees. Additionally, we participated in the assisted sale scheme, which served as an invaluable intermediary throughout our buying and selling process.”
This collaborative approach made the sale and purchase process more manageable enabling the family to be excited about their move. .
Jacqueline said: “Working with Taylor Wimpey to buy our home was an incredibly smooth process. They have been supportive and helpful from start to finish, which made us feel comfortable throughout.
“The team goes above and beyond too. When we mentioned that we needed an additional turning circle, they didn't hesitate to address our request. We are extremely pleased with how they've handled everything so far and could not recommend them enough to our friends and family.”
Hartford Green is located at Weeley Road, Great Bentley, Colchester, Essex, CO7 8PD. A selection of three and four-bedroom homes are currently on sale, including the Manford.

We support Friday Five Series race in Great Bentley
The Friday 5 Series comprises six 5-mile races across Essex and Suffolk, held during the summer on Friday evenings and open to all. The Great Bentley race took place in July and attracted scores of runners.
Matt Laverack, Race Director of the Friday 5 Series Race, said: “The club has been able to further improve the run and concentrate on the facilities offered to runners and supporters thanks to Taylor Wimpey’s support.
“There are lots of costs involved in hosting a run and we are grateful for Taylor Wimpey’s donation which has been a great help in covering expenses.”
Welcome to Great Bentley
Known for having the largest village green, an impressive 43-acres, Great Bentley has its own unique character and is a fantastic place to put down roots. The green hosts summer-time cricket matches and picnics; in the winter it hosts fun fares and football matches.
Boasting community groups and a range of annual events – such as a carnival, village show and drama productions – there’s something to suit all ages. Your new local, the Plough Inn, offers classic pub grub with great views of the green.
Creating a sustainable future
We visited Great Bentley Primary School to give a thought-provoking sustainability talk and activity workshop
Creating a sustainable future
Staff from our land, production and sales teams visited the school close to our Hartford Green development to host a discussion around the importance of environmentally friendly practices and how pupils can play a role in creating a more sustainable future.
The talk covered a range of topics, from reducing waste and conserving energy to the benefits of sustainable building practices.
We also handed out activity packs which included a selection of educational materials to support pupils in their learning and personal development, such as bird box building kits.
Michael O’Leary, Regional Operations Director at Taylor Wimpey London, said, “At Taylor Wimpey, we are committed to sustainable building practices and believe that it is important to inspire the next generation to create a more sustainable future. It was great to visit the pupils in Great Bentley and our team really enjoyed working through the activities with them.”
Teacher Hannah Upston said: "We are very grateful to Taylor Wimpey for hosting the talk and handing out the activity packs. We think it’s really important to try to encourage our pupils to become environmentally conscious citizens who will understand the importance of protecting our planet, and visits like this can really help."

Exeter family fall in love with green space at Riverside Walk
A family who recently made the move from central Exeter couldn’t be happier with their decision to settle on the outskirts of the city.
With a new baby and a dog, the couple knew that a spacious house with a garden was what they were seeking. After visiting the development, the couple settled on a three-bedroom Byford.
Harry and Sophie are both managers of businesses in Exeter Quay, so open space and cycle links into the city were key considerations for the couple. Riverside Walk has plenty of green space at the development and is close to Exeter’s network of cycle paths, making it the perfect choice for a family that enjoys an active lifestyle.
Harry said: “We’re loving Riverside Walk and being in Countess Wear; we’ve always liked the area and it’s an easy commute to work along the cycle path with great access to the Exe Estuary Trail. We’ve recently started our family and we also own a dog, so the green space that the development has is a huge plus; we’re never stuck for walking routes.
“The development itself looks great, and brings a modern touch to an area with some older estates. We were looking for a three-bedroom house and wanted one that had good proportioned rooms. The whole downstairs area of the Byford is nice and spacious and the upstairs rooms are large enough to fit everything we need, but it still feels cosy.
Overall, we’re really pleased with our home. We wanted to know more about Taylor Wimpey after hearing so much about how much care and quality goes into the building process. From the very start of our buying journey we were impressed with how helpful the sales team were, they answered any questions we had and were helpful in making sure the move was stress-free.
