We complete our annual charity hiking challenge
We have raised more than £5,000 for charity after taking part in Taylor Wimpey’s annual fundraising event.
Now in its 12th year, the Taylor Wimpey Challenge has so far raised more than £1.6 million for the Youth Adventure Trust (YAT), a charity which inspires vulnerable young people through outdoor adventure, as well as other regional charities across the country.
More than 300 Taylor Wimpey employees, across 49 teams completed a hike along the north Devon coastline, followed by a series of competitive creative and strategic tasks. Money raised by a team from Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire will be donated to the YAT and Martin House Children’s Hospice, a local charity providing hospice care for children and young people with life-shortening conditions and providing support for their families.
Nadene Julian, Customer Director for Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, said: “The Taylor Wimpey Challenge is always a fantastic event. Not only does it bring together employees from across the business, but more importantly, it raises a huge amount of money for extremely worthy charities. This year has been no different and I’m extremely proud of our teams for their effort in raising much needed donations for the YAT and Martin’s House Children’s Hospice.”
Victoria Coltman, Partnerships and Trusts Team Manager for Martin House Children’s Hospice, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire for raising such a wonderful amount for Martin House. It sounded like an amazing event, and we're really grateful to everyone who took part.”
Mark Davey, CEO at the Youth Adventure Trust, said: “Funding from this year’s event will make a huge difference to us and we look forward to continuing our partnership into 2027.”
We donate seed houses to create wildflower garden at Wakefield school
To help mark National Garden Month this April, pupils at a Wakefield school were encouraged to create a wildflower garden thanks to our seed house donation.
Dozens of seed bombs, shaped like little houses which contain wildflower seeds, were donated to Pinders Primary School to help youngsters create a new nature area at the school.
Sam Evans, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, said: “Gardening provides so many positives in a person’s life, including nurturing a love of nature, so we wanted to support pupils at Pinders Primary by encouraging them to create their own wildflower garden through this donation. Hopefully, it will foster a real joy for being outside, connecting with nature and a true love of gardening.”
Kelly Rowlands, Assistant Head Teacher at Pinders Primary School, said: “We are so grateful to Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire for donating these seed houses. The children were excited by them, but more importantly, you don’t need to have any gardening experience to plant them, which is perfect for our young pupils. We are all now looking forward to seeing the seeds take root, a lovely wildflower garden flourish and spotting the insects and creatures that will hopefully visit and benefit from our new nature area.”
We donated more than 120 seed houses to the school, in Eastmoor Road.
Sam added: “We are committed to supporting the communities in which we build, especially local schoolchildren.”
We name our chosen charity for 2026
This year, we will be fundraising to support Martin House Children’s Hospice after it became our chosen charity.
Our regional staff, at our Head Office in Wakefield, hold a ballot every year to decide which charity they would like to support.
The hospice, based in Boston Spa, provides free care for children and young people with life-shortening conditions as well as support for their families.
Lisa Waugh, Managing Director at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, said: “Every year, everyone at our regional headquarters gets behind our fundraising efforts and shows real dedication to supporting our chosen charity through fundraising activities throughout the year”
Hannah Finan, partnerships manager at Martin House Children’s Hospice said: “We are delighted to have been named as the chosen charity for 2026 and that the staff at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire recognise the vital support we provide for children and their families.”
