David and Joanna have chosen a new home at Willow Gardens in the picturesque North Ayrshire town of Kilwinning as their perfect place to downsize and enjoy retirement.
"The whole service has been great – they’ve reassured us throughout the process, their communication has been professional, helpful, and friendly and the aftercare has been exceptional- I really can’t fault it."
David and Joanna had a great experience and customer journey buying their new home as David explains: “During the pandemic, Joanna and I took the time to evaluate life really and we decided it was a good time to downsize from our old larger property in Kilbirnie. We’ve only moved six miles along the road, but Taylor Wimpey offered us exactly what we needed which was a house that was easier to look after, easier to maintain, and just big enough for the two of us.
“We have been impressed with Taylor Wimpey since day one. The whole service has been great – they’ve reassured us throughout the process, their communication has been professional, helpful, and friendly and the aftercare has been exceptional- I really can’t fault it. I also can’t believe how easy and seamless the process has been from buying a new house off-plan, selling our old house, and then moving in.”
As well as benefitting from the expertise and support of Taylor Wimpey’s sales executives Carol and Emma, the couple used Taylor Wimpey’s Easymover scheme to make a seamless and stress-free move to downsize from their previous property.
"The Easymover scheme is brilliant because it means you can use Taylor Wimpey’s expertise to sell your current house, as well as help towards some of your legal fees."
Using Easymover makes the whole process so simple and easy as Joanna adds: “The Easymover scheme is brilliant because it means you can use Taylor Wimpey’s expertise to sell your current house, as well as help towards some of your legal fees. We bought our new home off-plan and then Taylor Wimpey arranged for two estate agents to visit our old house and then we were able to choose who to progress with going on the market with. They took away the stress of the whole selling process and – everything was just seamless.
“Before we signed up to Easymover, the whole process was clearly explained. You have eight weeks to sell your home using Easymover, but our old house sold quickly, and Taylor Wimpey took care of everything for us. Quite simply it is something less for you to worry about and you can just look forward to moving to your new home. While we waited on our new home being built, Emma was great at keeping us updated on the progress the site team was making. She sent us lots of progress pictures which was great too.”
When choosing the right style of home for their downsize, the couple liked the layout of the Andrew two bedroom, as David adds: “We went to see the Andrew show home in Paisley and it was a great way for us to see that we would have plenty of space, plus it helped us to work out which pieces of our furniture would move with us.
“To be honest we took the opportunity to buy everything new and we just love our new house, and we feel really settled at the development too. We moved around two years ago, and it’s been incredible to see how Willow Gardens has grown and become a community – it’s lovely. We enjoy our walks around the development, and I’ve taken lots of photographs of its progress – I just keep forgetting to save them so we can see just how far the development has come.”
Moving home can be stressful but Taylor Wimpey aims to make the whole process of moving to a new home as easy and enjoyable as possible. The couple was also equally impressed with the team’s attention to detail on their move-in day as Joanne adds: “Our experience moving into Willow Gardens was lovely. Carol was waiting to welcome us, our house was lovely and clean, and we appreciated the welcome pack and the big bow on the door.”
“Just go ahead and do it. It's such an easy process, it’s brilliant.”
Continued support
Our commitment to customer service extends well after you move in as David continues: “As part of your customer experience with Taylor Wimpey, you are assigned a customer relations manager who looks after you once you’ve moved in. Our aftercare has been brilliant with Gavin, Ross, and the site team. Gavin did a brilliant home demo with us, and he was happy to pop back to our house a few times to show me how best to work the heating, and the site manager Ross is helpful too. He’s sorted the odd snag that we’ve had and he’s always saying hello when we walk past. We have settled into retirement, and we still pop down to see Emma at the sales office too – it’s lovely being part of the development and seeing it change and grow.”
And finally, the couple’s advice for other buyers is: “Just go ahead and do it. Visit the show homes first to get an idea of the layout of the house you like and use Taylor Wimpey’s experience to help you get on the move. It's such an easy process, it’s brilliant.”
In the community
Children from Primary 6 and Primary 7 at Abbey Primary in Kilwinning have been busy painting and decorating little bird boxes as part of a sustainability challenge set by us to encourage more wildlife into private gardens.
As part of the project, our local sustainability champion, Joseph Green, visited Abbey Primary to explain more about the our local sustainability efforts, such as bee bricks, bird boxes, bug hotels and hedgehog highways at developments across the west of Scotland, including Willow Gardens in Kilwinning.
Joseph also chose his favourite three designs from the 58 bird boxes decorated by the children and based on their eye-catching designs the winners were also awarded with National Book Tokens. It’s hoped that the little bird boxes painted by the children in the challenge will find new homes in gardens across the local area.
We supplied Abbey Primary with all the materials needed for the project. Every child also received a copy of Taylor Wimpey’s Ecotastic Activity book, which is designed to help children learn fun facts about the environment while also discovering some interesting ways that Taylor Wimpey is making its new homes and developments more sustainable.
Our sustainability champion, Joseph Green, said: “We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to work with local communities near our developments, so we were delighted when teachers at Abbey Primary agreed to participate in our bird box painting competition. I understand the children enjoyed working on this project, and it was great to have the opportunity to visit them in class and to tell them all about our sustainability efforts across the west of Scotland.”
Kerry Blackwood, Class Teacher at Abbey Primary, added: “We were delighted to be asked to participate in Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s bird box painting competition. The children had great fun creating the designs for and painting their bird boxes. “I am pleased this project has offered our children a variety of learning opportunities and experiences, including a great talk from Joseph at Taylor Wimpey who also gave the children an insight into the company’s sustainability efforts. “We were also delighted to be gifted with a nature pack from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland that we will use in our school garden – which is great news for our local wildlife.”
This year’s World Book Day celebrations marked the official opening of a new school library at Abbey Primary in Kilwinning, as well as a donation of £250 from our West Scotland business unit and the team from our local Willow Gardens development.
World Book Day aims to encourage children of all ages to enjoy and appreciate the pleasures of reading. Andrew Falconer, Principal Teacher at Abbey Primary, said: “World Book Day is a fantastic initiative which really encourages children to develop their reading. Thanks to Taylor Wimpey’s donation, we’ll be able to add some new books to our new school library and we can’t wait for our pupils to get stuck into some new stories.”
"We hope the pupils had a brilliant day reading, choosing their next story to enjoy or celebrating their favourite characters. And we also hope they will try some of the fun challenges in our Ecotastic Activity book, which is designed to help children find out fun facts about the environment, while also discovering some interesting ways that we are making our new homes and developments more sustainable too."

Supporting the community
We were delighted to support Kilwinning Academy’s amateur production of Footloose, donating £500 towards the school’s end-of-term show.
The much-anticipated musical was a fantastic showcase of local talent, with students bringing the vibrant energy and iconic soundtrack of Footloose to life for their school and community. The donation from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland contributed to costumes, stage design, and production costs, helping students create an unforgettable experience.
Audrey Ross, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, commented: “As work at our local development Willow Gardens continues and more new families move into the area, we are proud to support Kilwinning Academy in their creative endeavours and to help bring this exciting production to life.
“At Taylor Wimpey, we believe in fostering strong connections within the communities where we build, and this donation reflects our commitment to celebrating local talent and enriching student experiences.”
A spokesperson for the Production Team at Kilwinning Academy adds: “The students have worked tirelessly for weeks on this production, and they are excited to get their first night under their belt. This donation from Taylor Wimpey has been a great help in covering some of the costs of staging this incredible show. We hope lots of the local community in Kilwinning come along to support us.”

Following our recent fundraising event at Willow Gardens, where visitors were encouraged to ‘Go Purple’ in support of The Ayrshire Hospice, we are delighted to confirm that the fundraising target of £750 was met. Furthermore, we have added a further boost of £450, taking the total donation to £1,200.
Visitors to our idyllic Willow Gardens development in the popular North Ayrshire town enjoyed being inspired by our two show homes and free mortgage advice from an Independent Mortgage Specialist.
There was also an opportunity to meet volunteers from the hospice and support The Ayrshire Hospice’s Go Purple campaign. Everyone who came along wearing something purple generated a £25* donation to the hospice, which hosts a Living Well Hub in Kilwinning and provides care and services throughout the community.
Audrey Ross, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “Our Willow Gardens development in Kilwinning has grown to be a popular choice with a wide range of buyers looking to call this semi-rural development their home. But we don’t just build new homes; we support the communities where we build, and our recent Moving Made Easier event was an ideal opportunity for us to raise funds for The Ayrshire Hospice.
“As well as providing an incredible service for patients across the Ayrshire area from its temporary base in East Ayrshire Community Hospital, its Living Well Team offers a rolling eight-week programme of support from its hub at The Dirrans Centre locally in Kilwinning."
Chris Rodden, Director of Patient and Family Services of The Ayrshire Hospice, said: “We are extremely grateful for this support from Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, and we are thrilled they participated in our Go Purple campaign. We can’t thank them enough for their support, and I am thrilled that so many members of the local community took the opportunity to visit the development, take a look around the show homes – and, of course, entered into the fun of wearing or bringing something purple.
“We are so pleased to accept a donation of £1,200 from Taylor Wimpey’s team in Kilwinning which will be put to work locally to help us deliver a range of projects to those who need the support of The Ayrshire Hospice. On behalf of everyone who relies on our services across Ayrshire and Arran, I would like to say a huge thank you.”

Development naming competition winners revealed in Kilwinning
As part of a local community engagement project, our Willow Gardens in Kilwinning was named following a challenge earlier this year for school children at nearby Abbey Primary School to create a name for the development that reflected the character of the local area.
The winners of the competition - Kaitlyn Wilson now in P6/7 and Lewis Elliot now in 1st year at Kilwinning Academy - revealed the first signage for Willow Gardens where pre-construction is well underway.
