New Beginnings by the Coast for First-Time Buyer
After years of living with her mother in a nearby village, Ruth Scothern (46) was ready to take an exciting step and get on the property ladder. Her search for the ideal home found her at Taylor Wimpey's coastal development, Seaham Garden Village, where she found her first home.
Ruth said: "I moved in December 2024 and immediately knew I'd made the right decision. What I love most is how light and airy it feels, especially the large kitchen/dining area that opens out onto the garden, it's perfect for entertaining family."
As a first-time buyer, Ruth wanted a fresh start without the hassle of renovations, making a new-build the perfect choice.
"I liked the idea of a new-build property so I could choose how I wanted the house to look from the beginning rather than having to spend time renovating," Ruth explained. "After looking at quite a few developments by different builders in the area, I found Taylor Wimpey homes to have slightly larger rooms and windows that let in more light, making the house feel more spacious."
The development's location was also a big selling point for Ruth. "The excellent road links and beautiful green open spaces immediately caught my attention, and I already knew and loved the area. Being able to reach the seafront within minutes of leaving the house is absolutely wonderful."
The buying process with Taylor Wimpey proved to be stress-free and well-managed. "Emily, the Sales Assistant, provided great support with a step-by-step guide through the process, directing me to a mortgage advisor and solicitor. The first-time buyer incentive was also incredibly helpful for those little extras like flooring and kitchen upgrades."
Ruth chose the Eynsford house type for several practical reasons. "It was within my budget and offered everything I was looking for – a sizeable garden, a large main bedroom with plenty of storage space, a generous ensuite, allocated parking on a drive, and that wonderful kitchen/dining area with French doors opening onto the garden."
Now settled in her new home, Ruth couldn't be happier with her decision. "Looking out of the window on a morning over to the sea and seeing the sunrise is absolutely magical. Being able to sit in the lounge and enjoy the beauty of the sea is something I appreciate every day."
As a Primary School Teacher, the location has proven ideal for Ruth's commuting needs. "One of the main reasons for choosing this development was how easy it is to travel to key roads for my workplace. The combination of convenient transport links and coastal living makes this the perfect place to call home."
Seaham Trinity Primary School design welcome card for new residents
We asked Year 5 pupils at Seaham Trinity Primary School to design a ‘welcome to your new home’ card for our new residents at Seaham Garden Village.
The competition saw lots of enthusiastic children take part, each showcasing their artistic talents. We selected Keira as the winner, her design stood out and perfectly captured the idea of the card we had in mind.
She has been awarded a £50 voucher and her winning design has been transformed into a card which will be given to new residents when they move into their new homes.
Mrs E Lee, Headteacher at Seaham Trinity Primary School, said: “Our pupils were so excited to be a part of this competition for Taylor Wimpey, it allowed them to express their creativity. We hope the new residents at Seaham Garden Village enjoy their welcome card as they become a part of our local community.”

Seaham Trinity Primary School were challenged to design a vibrant and imaginative welcome flag which is now flying high at the entrance to the homebuilder’s Seaham Garden Village development.
The pupils created a range of colourful entries that represent the seaside town, giving the Taylor Wimpey team a tough decision to make. Harry Rowland was crowned winner of the competition with his imaginative design and was able to see his winning flag take pride of place at the development entrance.
Elisabeth Lee, Headteacher at Seaham Trinity Primary School, said: “Our pupils had the opportunity to unleash their creativity in Taylor Wimpey’s fun flag design competition. They thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and it really made all of us feel part of the new community!”
