Our high-viz donation reflects our support for local Brownies in Dalkeith

We have offered our support to the local 5th Dalkeith Brownie Pack by supplying high-viz vests to the girls and leaders that will help them to be seen and stay safe on trips around the local area.

    Dalkeith Brownies Nov 2015

The Brownies are always keen to be out and about as much as possible as Brown Owl for 5th Dalkeith Brownies, Sarah van der Walt explains:  “Our girls love to be out and about in the local community, and we also encourage them to take part and achieve their road safety badge that teaches them how to keep themselves safe when they are out.  However, the Brownies wear a brown uniform and that’s just not an ideal colour for being noticed in the darker months.
“We approached Taylor Wimpey East Scotland to see if they’d be able to help with children’s versions of their high-visibility vests that are worn on their construction sites, and we were delighted when they said they’d be happy to help.  It means that we can take the girls out any time of the year, and feel reassured that they can be seen by motorists and other road users.  And having our pack name on the vests means the girls are easily identifiable if we’re in larger groups at events – we’re really thrilled with how smart they all look.”

Taylor Wimpey help at the Community Clean Up Day

The Scholars (1) The Scholars (3)

We joined other local companies to support St David’s Primary School Parent Council in Dalkeith, Midlothian to organise a very successful Community Clean Up day in order to transform their school playground.  As well as a donation of £1,000, we supplied two members of the team – Billy Bernard and Lee Anderson – to offer a helping hand.  The event attracted over 25 volunteers as well as 10 children from the primary school and without doubt they have all made a wonderful difference to the school playground.  The long list of achievements include: creating a new traverse climbing wall; repairing and painting benches; creating a safe play area for the younger children; new outdoor blackboards; building a new pathway and planted garden areas; constructing a new raised vegetable patch; repairing pathways and creating safe access to play areas; repairing fences, gardening, cleaning and removal of unwanted items and a new loose play area.

Karen Armstrong, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland said:  “The transformation of the playground at St David’s Primary School has been incredible in such a short period of time.  We’re delighted to have been able to offer our assistance and I know that Lee Anderson and Billy Bernard really enjoyed their time with the team that assembled on the day.”

A big thanks also goes to all the parents, children and members of The Parent Council who gave up their time to make sure the Community Clean Up day a massive success.
Tony Cervi, Chair of the Parent Council said: “The day could not have gone any better. We are so proud of what we have achieved and we have really made a difference.  The playground looks great and we are so grateful to everyone for their support.  It’s amazing what can be achieved with the help and support of local companies and volunteers.  It’s just tremendous!
