We made a 1000 donation to Topsham Museum for its community project
The museum’s trustees raised funds to install eight signs in key locations around Topsham. The signs will explain the town’s heritage, from its origins as a Roman port to its evolution as a maritime hub, trading across the globe, through to its current status as a desirable coastal destination. The trustees and the museum have so far raised £12,000 towards the project, including funding from a number of local trusts and Taylor Wimpey. The museum is now seeking the final £3,000 which will allow them to apply for planning permission for the boards from Exeter City Council.
Gill McLean, Topsham Museum Trustee and Secretary, said: “Topsham’s history is well known to residents but we want to bring to life the town’s incredibly rich history to visitors as well. The boards will do just that, located around the town and giving background details of just what made each location so special.”
Emma Smith, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Exeter, said: “We’ve been in Topsham for a couple of years now and it’s clear that there is a wonderful story to be told. You can see the history in the architecture and feel the sense of the past influencing the present as you walk around the town.
“We’re excited to be building our own chapter in Topsham’s history and we were delighted to add our donation to the signage project.”
